A panini grill, like a contact grill, achieves its results by cooking food between two heated surfaces. This method has many benefits including the speed of cooking.

Panini grills differ from contact grills only in the style of the cooking surface. Whilst contact grills generally have flat plates, panini grills usually have at least one ribbed plate. This ribbing gives the cooked paninis their characteristic striped appearance.

The cooking cycle

Contact cooking is easy, there are five simple steps in the process.

1. Place food on to the bottom plate.
2. Lower the top plate onto the food
3. Set the timer (if your grill has one) for desired time
4. When the cooking time has elapsed open the top plate.
5. Remove the food and wipe or scrape the plates to remove food residue.
